Every student needs to believe they can choose a career path they can love!

Invite our, I Am Strong team facilitator, to come to your school or organization. We partner with non-profit organizations and corporations, so schools and organizations can utilize grants and sponsorships to take advantage of our ‘Be Your Best You’ formula curriculum.

I’m Career Ready - Program Outline

Session One – I Am Unique

Get ready to talk everything about you! We will explore your interests, what you are good at in school, and your other skills. You will get to know your classmates, how they are the same as you and how they are quite different. We will also start brainstorming on career ideas!

This session will set the baseline for everything we do for the next eight weeks.

Session Two – I Know My Why

Here we will talk about core values and why they are important. We will start digging into why you want to go to college or follow another education path. You will share results from your career assessment and start narrowing your career preferences.

Session Three – I Have Talents

Learn about what makes you unique. During this session, we will help you name and claim your own natural talents through the CliftonStrengths assessment results.

Session Four – I Am Ready

Now it’s time to pick a career path you will start exploring! We will brainstorm how to find an expert in that career path and determine the questions to ask during your interview. During this session, you will share one of your Strengths and how to communicate your awesomeness in a way that feels natural to you.

Session Five – I Am Different Than Everyone Else

During this session, we will share your natural talents with your class and explore their top 5 strengths through activities. This is a great way for you to appreciate how they are different from you and why it’s important for you to follow your own path. Plus, this session allows everyone to give each other a little bit of ribbing about the things they do and their little quirks! Prepare to have fun.

Session Six – I Did It

It’s show and tell time! You will share how your interview went with your expert and if the career path is still on the list of contenders. Then we will talk about what college major(s) or another path are a good fit to get you to your goal. If there were non-negotiables that came up during the interview, or that career just didn’t sound like a good fit, we will talk about your next career priority. More Strengths activities will be included during this session.

Session Seven – I Am Curious

Not sure if the career path you chose is EXACTLY, right? 

Good!

It is important to stay curious about your next step. There are a lot of experts out there to interview. We don’t want to rely on one person’s opinion, so getting more practice at interviewing is important. We will also continue our strengths exploration. Understanding and identifying when you are using your strengths will help you live a happy life!

Session Eight – I Am Confident

Are there times you just can’t see what you should do next or you don’t know if you can? Let’s dive into your limiting beliefs and squash them now. You have big goals to pursue, let’s make sure your inside voice does not get in the way of your amazing life. Your strengths will carry you through and we will learn how to pull them forward in any situation.

Session Nine – I’ve Got This

It’s time to review what we have learned and how to apply the ‘Be Your Best You’ formula to prepare for your career path. We will finalize your Strengths Scripts (so you can use these during college, intern or apprenticeships, and job interviews). And there is a surprise we share with you during this session that you don’t want to miss!

Session One – Introduction to Journaling

Get ready to look inside yourself, and express your emotions, fears, anxieties, and triumphs.

This session will start your journaling journey through the end of the semester and beyond.

Sessions Two to Four - Meet the Experts

Let’s meet some experts! Local business owners and representatives will be invited to share real-life experiences, insight on salaries, and what type of education you need to do the work they do and you never know, they may also become mentors. We will use your dream list from day one to finalize the list of experts you will hear from over the semester.

These are interactive sessions where you get to ask all the questions on your mind!

Session Five – The Arts

It’s time to explore the ARTS! Several options will be presented to the group for a vote! They could include:

  • An outing to a concert, a theater, a guitar, or maybe a painting lesson, etc.

  • Why the arts are important and why you should care

Session Six to Eight – Meet the Experts

Every student has an opportunity to hear from an expert who can relate to their area of interest. By this point, we will be better prepared on what questions to ask our experts and which ones make the biggest difference in a career that is right for you.

Program Overview

Audience:  High School Junior and Seniors

Program Length: 9-weeks (2 times per week) course built around school semesters. Can be modified to fit curriculum needs. Coursework will be completed during a 45 to 90-minute class window (dependent on the current period length at each school) except for assessments which will require time outside of class and the use of a computer.

Program Goal:  Through exploring a career path students feel purposeful and empowered about their future. It builds confidence, and helps students make more positive, informed decisions about life after high school. 

  • Offers interactive curriculum for high school students that teaches a formula to determine a career path

  • Addresses practical tools to cope with teen life stressors through journaling, and an introduction to the arts such as drawing, music, and theater. 

Program Design:  The program is designed with activities that will reach students through a strengths-based focus.  Each session has a specific goal and a physical worksheet or activity designed to get students talking about their future, how they are coping with stress and/or how integrating the arts can improve their overall happiness.   

Program Guidelines/Rules:  Facilitators must set guidelines on the first day of the class.  If facilitators can get students to identify their own guidelines/rules, then the class will be more self-managing.  The following are rules that must be defined for all attendees:

  • We are here to listen and support each other

  • All individuals will have a chance to be heard

  • No one is forced to talk, but participation is expected

  • We all have different life experiences and goals, so no criticism of opinions is allowed

Program Outcomes:  Students that have completed this course report they feel more empowered. Their confidence level that they can choose a career path goes from an average of a 3 to a 9 (on a 10-point scale).
